From identity to interaction.

Aster is my independent desktop browser for macOS, built on WebKit with a focus on creative professionals. I designed and developed the product from its identity and visual language to its interface and native browsing experience.

The work brings design and development into one iterative process. Aster now runs on WebKit, with the AI Panel implemented in a working alpha. This case study follows the visual and interaction design behind the application.

An orbital symbol and a restrained wordmark give Aster its own identity. Atmospheric blue imagery carries that identity from the desktop icon into the browser’s home screen.

The home screen pairs a quiet search field with a soft atmospheric background. Light and dark interface studies explore the same layout in two different surface treatments.

A vertical sidebar groups browser controls, pinned sites and open tabs. Split view explores keeping two pages in the same workspace. The AI Panel is implemented in the alpha, bringing an AI conversation alongside the page.

Compact controls, pill-shaped tabs and a consistent blue accent repeat across the interface. The same visual language connects browsing, search and contextual tools.

The move from Chromium to WebKit is complete. Aster now runs on WebKit, with the AI Panel implemented in the macOS alpha. Design and development continue together as the application is tested and refined.
